Stratford Municipal Airport (CYSA) is a small uncontrolled aerodrome six kilometres north of Stratford, Ontario, in the Township of Perth East, Perth County. It serves a mix of corporate, training, freight and recreational flying with around 13,000 aircraft movements a year, and offers two hard-surfaced, lit runways for visiting VFR pilots.

Overview

Stratford Municipal Airport is a small regional aerodrome operated by Stratford Air Services Ltd, situated a short distance north of the city of Stratford in southwestern Ontario. It is a working general aviation field rather than a scheduled airline destination, handling corporate, training, freight and recreational traffic, and is home to a mix of privately owned and commercially operated aircraft. For a simulator pilot it offers a straightforward uncontrolled-field VFR exercise close to several larger airports in the region.

Airspace & Location

The airport lies about six kilometres north of the City of Stratford, on 482 acres of land within the Township of Perth East, Perth County, Ontario. It sits in uncontrolled airspace, with Toronto Centre providing area advisory and flight-following service on 135.3 MHz. The field is described as being within about a ninety-minute drive of five other airports, three of them international, giving a sense of its position within the wider southwestern Ontario aviation network.

Runways

Stratford Municipal Airport has two physical hard-surfaced runways, both lit. Runway 05/23 offers a landing distance of 4900 ft in the 05 direction and 3955 ft in the 23 direction. Runway 17/35 is 2680 ft in length in both directions. There is no instrument landing system at the field.

Radio & Navigation

Pilots should use 122.8 MHz, which serves as both the Aerodrome Traffic Frequency and UNICOM for Stratford, for position reports and traffic coordination in the vicinity of the airport. Toronto Centre is available on 135.3 MHz for area advisory and flight-following purposes. No instrument approach procedures are published for the field.

Joining & Circuit Procedures

As an uncontrolled aerodrome with a mandatory-frequency-style UNICOM/ATF setup on 122.8 MHz, pilots are expected to broadcast their position and intentions on this frequency when approaching, joining, and operating in the traffic pattern, in the absence of any air traffic control service.

The Airfield Today

The airport is operated by Stratford Air Services Ltd and supports around 13,000 aircraft movements annually, with a mix of corporate, freight, training and recreational flying. It is home to some 44 commercial and private aircraft, with both privately owned hangars and tie-down spots available for rent. On-site facilities include washrooms and free public internet access through a Pilot Information Centre, with wireless internet available throughout the main terminal building. Prior permission may be required for certain operations; pilots should confirm arrangements with the operator before flying in.location and general aviation infrastructure, without displacing the runway and radio facts already given.location and general aviation infrastructure, without displacing the runway and radio facts already given.
