Pembroke Airport (CYTA) is a small municipally owned aerodrome serving the city of Pembroke and the wider Renfrew County area of eastern Ontario. It offers a single lit hard-surface runway suitable for light and business aircraft, and sees a mix of general aviation and corporate traffic, including occasional VIP visits, making it a useful and unassuming stop for simulator pilots exploring the Ottawa Valley.
Pembroke Airport lies at Pembroke, Ontario, and is owned collectively by several Renfrew County municipalities together with the City of Pembroke, reflecting its role as a shared regional facility rather than a single-operator field. It handles a steady flow of general aviation movements as well as a notable amount of corporate traffic, reportedly around two hundred corporate flights a year, and has on occasion received high-profile visitors, including a delegation for the president of Jamaica who routed through Pembroke after arriving in Canada via Hamilton. For a sim pilot it presents a straightforward, uncontrolled regional airport typical of the Ottawa Valley.
The airport sits within the Pembroke area of eastern Ontario, in the vicinity of CFB Petawawa, reflected in the presence of a Petawawa Advisory frequency alongside the airport's own traffic frequency. Overlying air traffic control services for the area are provided by Montreal Centre. There is no indication of an operating control tower at Pembroke itself, consistent with its use of an aerodrome traffic frequency rather than a tower frequency.
Pembroke has a single physical runway, 17/35, 4,985 feet long with a hard surface and runway lighting. There is no ILS approach available at the field.
Pilots can expect to use 126.4 MHz for Petawawa Advisory in the surrounding area, while Pembroke's own aerodrome traffic frequency (ATF) and unicom are both on 122.8 MHz, with the station identifying as Pembroke Traffic and Pembroke Unicom respectively. Overlying area control is provided by Montreal Centre on 135.2 MHz. There is no ILS or other published instrument approach at Pembroke.
As Pembroke operates on an aerodrome traffic frequency rather than under a control tower, pilots are expected to self-announce their position and intentions on 122.8 MHz when inbound, joining, and operating in the vicinity of the field.
Pembroke Airport is owned jointly by a group of Renfrew County municipalities, including Laurentian Valley, Petawawa, Deep River and Laurentian Hills, together with Garrison Petawawa and the City of Pembroke, an arrangement that underlines its function as a shared regional asset for the Ottawa Valley communities it serves. Its role has extended beyond routine general aviation use: the airport has hosted corporate flights on a regular basis, and it was used for a visit by the president of Jamaica, whose delegation flew into Hamilton before continuing on to Pembroke.
Today Pembroke Airport continues to support a mix of general aviation and corporate movements, with the airport commission noting around two hundred corporate flights annually. Whitewater Region holds roughly a 15.8 percent ownership share in the airport as one of the participating municipalities. Taxiway B is noted as being available only on a seasonal basis, from May through October, with no winter maintenance provided outside that period.
