The airfield lies near the town of Tillsonburg, which is situated about 50 kilometres southeast of London, Ontario, at the junction of Highway 3 and Highway 19. The town itself sits on Big Otter Creek in Oxford County.
Tillsonburg offers three physical runway pairs. Runway 08/26 is the primary hard-surfaced strip, lit, measuring 5470 feet in the 08 direction and 4482 feet in the 26 direction. Two grass runways complete the field: 02/20, lit, at approximately 2158/2157 feet, and 14/32, lit, at 2090 feet each way. There is no ILS at the field.
The airport is owned and operated by the Town of Tillsonburg, a municipality settled in 1825 by George Tillson and other immigrants from Enfield, Massachusetts, originally known as Dereham Forge before being renamed Tillsonburg in 1836 and incorporated as a town in 1872.
Tillsonburg Municipal Airport continues to be owned and operated by the Town of Tillsonburg as one of its municipal facilities, alongside other town-run amenities such as the local water park.
