Noumérat - Moufdi Zakaria Airport is a public airport serving Ghardaïa, the capital of Algeria's Ghardaïa Province, situated in the Sahara to the southeast of the city. Named after the Algerian national poet Moufdi Zakaria, it offers a substantial hard-surfaced runway pair with an ILS, making it a notable stop for sim pilots exploring desert Algeria.
Noumérat - Moufdi Zakaria Airport is a public airport operated by EGSA Alger, serving Ghardaïa, the capital of the Ghardaïa Province in Algeria. It takes its name from Moufdi Zakaria (1908-1977), author of Kassaman, the Algerian national anthem. For the simulator pilot it offers an interesting Saharan destination with a long, ILS-equipped runway set against a remote desert landscape.
The airport lies at El Atteuf in the Wilaya de Ghardaia, Algeria, roughly 8.6 nautical miles southeast of the city of Ghardaïa which it serves.
The field has two physical runways. Runway 12/30 is 10,135 feet long with a hard surface, is lit, and carries an ILS on the 30 approach. Runway 18/36 is 7,864 feet long with a hard surface but is unlit and has no instrument approach listed.
Radio contact is available as Ghardaia RDO on 889.4 MHz and Ghardaia TWR on 118.9 MHz. An ILS is provided for runway 30.
The airport is named for Moufdi Zakaria, the poet who wrote Kassaman, the Algerian national anthem, and is operated by EGSA Alger. It has been the scene of several notable incidents: on 28 January 2004 a Tassili Airlines Beechcraft 1900D crashed while going around after a visual approach, killing two of its five occupants; on 6 February 2010 a Ghana International Airlines Boeing 757 en route from Accra to London Gatwick made a precautionary landing here following indications of a hydraulics problem; and on 1 March 2021 an Air Algérie ATR 72 suffered a nose landing gear failure on approach from Algiers and carried out a nosegear-up landing with emergency services standing by.
The airport continues to handle scheduled Air Algérie services, with destinations including Adrar, Algiers, Constantine, Illizi, Oran and Tamanrasset.
