Tabarka-Aïn Draham International Airport lies on Tunisia's north-west coast near the resort town of Tabarka, a single-runway field built to serve the beaches of Tabarka and the cooler hill country around Aïn Draham. Once known as Tabarka-7 Novembre, it has seen its scheduled traffic dwindle since the 2011 revolution and by the mid-2020s carries no regular passenger services, making it a quiet destination for the simulator pilot seeking an uncluttered Mediterranean approach with a full-length ILS runway to work with.
Tabarka-Aïn Draham International Airport (ICAO DTKA, IATA TBJ) serves the coastal town of Tabarka in Tunisia's Jendouba Governorate and, at a stretch, the mountain resort of Aïn Draham further inland. It is operated by the Tunisian Civil Aviation and Airports Authority (OACA) as a public-sector airport. Built to support tourism in the north-west of the country, it has long depended on seasonal and charter traffic rather than year-round scheduled services, and by 2026 has no regular passenger flights, which makes it an interesting quiet-field option for VFR sim flying with a generous single ILS-equipped runway and little traffic to contend with.
The airport sits at coordinates 36.98N, 8.8769E on Tunisia's Mediterranean coast, close to the town of Tabarka, with the hill resort of Aïn Draham lying further inland to the south. Field elevation is 210 feet.
Tabarka-Aïn Draham has a single physical runway, 09/27, of hard surface construction measuring 9,361 feet in length. Both directions are lit, and runway 27 is equipped with an ILS approach, giving instrument-capable pilots a straightforward means of joining in poor visibility.
Approach and Tower services share a single frequency of 119.25 MHz. An ILS is available for runway 27, supporting instrument approaches to that direction.
The airport was built in 1992 to serve the north-west region of Tunisia and was originally named Tabarka-7 Novembre, a reference to the 7 November 1987 coup that brought Zine el Abidine Ben Ali to power. Following the 2011 revolution that ousted Ben Ali, the airport was renamed Tabarka-Aïn Draham International Airport. It was built primarily to support tourism, and traffic was strong in its early years, with around 63,000 passengers passing through in 2010. The revolution and subsequent decline in tourism hit the airport hard, and passenger numbers fell to fewer than 18,000 the following year. Rumours of closure in November 2013 led to protests by airport employees. In past years Tunisair operated charter flights from Tabarka carrying pilgrims to Medina during the Hajj season, including a first such flight in September 2015. Passenger numbers continued to decline through the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of 2026 the airport has no regular scheduled passenger flights, its role having become largely seasonal and charter-based, principally supporting tourism to the beaches around Tabarka. The terminal is a compact building with basic passenger facilities, and the field remains under the administration of the Tunisian Civil Aviation and Airports Authority.
