Kyritz Airfield (EDBK) is a small general-aviation and commercial airfield in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district of Brandenburg, not far from Berlin. It offers three parallel runway surfaces for flexible operations and traces its lineage back to agricultural flying in the former East Germany, making it a characterful stop for VFR pilots exploring the region.

Overview

Kyritz Airfield lies in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district of Brandenburg, within reach of Berlin, and is described as a commercial airfield that is today home to a mix of clubs and businesses. For a simulator pilot it offers an unusual triple-runway layout of grass and hard surfaces, plus a history rooted in East German agricultural aviation, giving it more character than many small fields of its size.

Airspace & Location

The airfield sits in the Brandenburg countryside in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district, near Berlin. Specific controlled airspace boundaries and neighbouring aerodromes are not detailed in the available material.

Runways

Kyritz has three physical runway strips aligned 14/32. The main hard-surfaced runway 14/32 is 3283 ft long and lit for night operations. Alongside it runs a grass runway pair, 14C/32C, also 3283 ft long, and a longer grass strip, 14R/32L, measuring 3886 ft. Field elevation is 128 ft, and there is no ILS.

Radio & Navigation

Kyritz Radio provides an information service on 122.73 MHz. An AFIS frequency of 132.65 MHz is also listed for the field, associated with Langen Information. No navigational aids or instrument approach procedures are published for the airfield.

History

Kyritz Airfield has its origins as the Kyritz-Heinrichsfelde agricultural airfield, used during the East German era for Interflug's agricultural aviation operations and by the Gesellschaft für Sport und Technik (GST), the state sport and technology organisation. Historical approach charts for the field survive from the 1960s and 1980s, reflecting this military and agricultural background before German reunification.

The Airfield Today

The airfield continues to operate as a commercial general-aviation field and is now the base for various flying clubs and businesses. It has modern airfield lighting, permitting night flying on the lit hard-surfaced runway. Detailed scenery for Kyritz Airfield has been produced for Microsoft Flight Simulator by Aerosoft, featuring recreated taxiway signage, night lighting, and animated ground details such as hangar interiors, vehicles and dynamic time-of-day effects.
