Siegerland Airport (EDGS) is a general aviation and business aviation field at Burbach in the Siegerland region of North Rhine-Westphalia, close to Siegen and sited in the tri-border area with Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. It offers a long hard-surfaced runway with an ILS approach alongside two grass strips, making it a useful and varied destination for VFR and instrument flights alike. The field has no scheduled airline services and today serves general aviation, parachuting and as a maintenance base for Avanti Air.
Siegerland Airport, known locally as Siegerlandflughafen, is a small regional airport at Burbach in the Siegerland area near Siegen, Germany. It has no scheduled airline services, being used mainly for general aviation and parachuting, and it also serves as the maintenance base for the airline Avanti Air. For the simulator pilot it offers an interesting mix of a long, lit hard runway with an ILS approach and a pair of shorter grass strips, giving a taste of both instrument and classic grass-field flying at one location.
The airport lies in the tri-border area where North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate meet, close to Siegen. It sits directly off the B 54 interstate road near the A 45 motorway, at coordinates 50.7077N, 8.0830E and an elevation of 1959 feet.
Siegerland has three physical runways. The main runway, 13/31, is 5325 feet long, hard-surfaced and lit, with an ILS serving runway 31. A parallel grass runway, 13L/31R, measures 2162 feet, and a third grass runway, 04/22, is 1677 feet long.
Traffic can be worked on AFIS frequency 123.525 MHz, called Langen Information, and the field also broadcasts its own ATIS on 128.705 MHz as Siegerland ATIS. Flight information is available on 120.38 MHz, Siegerland Information, and the wider area is served by Langen Radar on 124.9 MHz. An ILS is available for runway 31.
The airport was formerly served by the Scheuerfeld-Emmerzhausen railway. Between 1980 and 2000 the airfield's perimeter roads hosted the Siegerlandring motorsport circuit, a 3.346 km, sixteen-turn track that staged rounds of the Formula König, Formula Renault 2.0 Germany, Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, Interserie, the Deutsche Produktionswagen Meisterschaft and the German Formula Three Championship, among others, before the circuit closed in 2000.
There are no scheduled airline services at Siegerland; the airport is used largely for general aviation and parachuting, and it functions as the maintenance base for Avanti Air.
