Hamm-Lippewiesen is a small special-use airfield on the northern bank of the Lippe river, right on the edge of Hamm in North Rhine-Westphalia. It offers a hard-surfaced main runway alongside a shorter grass strip, making it a modest but characterful stop for light aircraft and microlights flying in the Ruhr area.

Overview

Hamm-Lippewiesen Airfield sits on the southern fringe of the Münsterland, just a few hundred metres from the centre of Hamm, protected from the adjacent Lippe river by a flood dike. It is classed as a special airfield (Sonderlandeplatz) rather than a full public aerodrome, and its combination of a lit hard runway and a parallel grass strip gives it a distinctly local, general-aviation character that will appeal to pilots looking for an unassuming VFR destination in the Ruhr region.

Airspace & Location

The field lies in Germany's uncontrolled lower airspace typical of small special airfields, close to downtown Hamm on the north side of the Lippe, with the river and its protective dike forming an obvious boundary immediately to the south of the site. Pilots should expect to operate under Flight Information Service in the surrounding area rather than within a formal control zone.

Runways

Hamm-Lippewiesen has two physical runways aligned 06/24. The main runway is a hard surface, lit, measuring 2002 ft on the 06 threshold and 2060 ft on the 24 threshold. Running parallel to it is a shorter grass runway, also lit, of 873 ft, identified as 06R/24L. There is no ILS at the field.

Radio & Navigation

Regional flight information is available from Langen Information on 129.875 MHz (AFIS). The airfield's own frequency is 134.055 MHz, with the callsign Hamm Radio (INFO). Pilots should call Hamm Radio for airfield information and traffic awareness when operating in the vicinity.

Visual Reference Points

The airfield is a distinctive visual feature by virtue of its position tight against the Lippe and its protective dike, only a short distance north of Hamm town centre, making the river line and dike useful references for locating and joining the field visually.

The Airfield Today

As a special airfield, Hamm-Lippewiesen is likely to require prior permission for visiting aircraft, and pilots should plan accordingly before flying in. The site combines a hard, lit main runway with a shorter lit grass strip, suggesting continued light-aircraft and microlight activity on the field.
