Sierksdorf/Hof-Altona (EDXT) is a small grass Sonderlandeplatz on the Baltic coast of Schleswig-Holstein, run by the Ostholsteiner Aero-Club close to the shore of the Lübecker Bucht. Its single 500-metre grass strip and PPR-only operation make it a quiet, scenic destination for VFR pilots wanting a coastal grass-field experience within easy reach of Lübeck and Kiel.

Overview

Flugplatz Sierksdorf/Hof-Altona is a small, grass-surfaced Sonderlandeplatz (special landing field) near the town of Sierksdorf on Germany's Baltic coast. It is operated by the Ostholsteiner Aero-Club e.V. and is best known among local pilots for its picturesque setting amid meadows and fields close to the sea, with the sandy beach of the Lübecker Bucht only a short walk away. Prior permission is required for all visiting traffic, giving it the character of a low-key, club-run grass strip rather than a busy general aviation field.

Airspace & Location

The airfield lies in Schleswig-Holstein, about 5 kilometres west of the Neustädter Bucht near the village of Sierksdorf, close to the Lübecker Bucht coastline. It sits at 54.0678N, 10.7432E at an elevation of 79 feet. As a small Sonderlandeplatz it operates in uncontrolled airspace typical of this stretch of the German Baltic coast, with other regional fields such as Grube, Lübeck-Blankensee and Wahlstedt within reasonably short flying distance.

Runways

The field has a single grass runway orientated 03/21, measuring 1827 feet (500 metres) in length. There is no ILS or other instrument approach; the strip is for visual operations only.

Radio & Navigation

Traffic in the wider area is served by Langen Information on AFIS frequency 125.1 MHz, while the airfield itself operates its own advisory service as Sierksdorf Radio on 125.385 MHz. No navaids or instrument approach procedures are available at the field, and all operations are conducted visually.

Visual Reference Points

The airfield sits close to the Baltic shoreline, with the sandy beach of Sierksdorf lying roughly 900 metres to 1.7 kilometres away and reachable on foot in about a quarter of an hour, making the coastline itself a useful landmark for pilots approaching from the sea. The surrounding countryside is given over to meadows and arable fields, which in late spring turn bright yellow with flowering rapeseed, a distinctive seasonal visual cue for the area around the strip. The Neustädter Bucht lies a few kilometres to the east and the wider sweep of the Lübecker Bucht coastline provides a clear reference for orientation.

History

The airfield was established in 1975 and operated for its first quarter-century under earlier arrangements before being taken over by the Ostholsteiner Aero-Club e.V. in 2000. During the 1990s the site at Hof Altona was granted approval as a Sonderlandeplatz operating on a PPR basis. In the years leading up to 2014 a dispute between the Aero-Club, which held the flying rights, and the landowner threatened the field's continued existence, with its future in doubt by the end of that year before the situation was resolved and flying operations continued.

The Airfield Today

The airfield remains active as a small grass strip with a single hangar and an airfield building offering a bistro and sun terrace for visiting pilots. Bicycles and e-bikes are available on site, allowing visitors to explore the surrounding East Holstein countryside or ride to the nearby beach. Prior permission is required for all flights to and from the field, and opening times are arranged on a PPR basis through the operating club.
