Mariehamn Airport (EFMA/MHQ) serves the Åland Islands from a site in Jomala, about 3 kilometres north-west of Mariehamn town centre, and is operated by the state-owned Finavia. It offers a single long instrument runway with ILS guidance, making it a straightforward if seasonally busy destination for VFR pilots crossing the Baltic to Åland.

It handles scheduled commercial services alongside general aviation traffic, and because no military aircraft use the demilitarised islands, the field's character is purely civil. For a visiting pilot it is a notable Baltic staging point, sited close to the sea with archipelago scenery on the approach.

Mariehamn has a single physical runway, 03/21, with a hard surface, lit, measuring 6213 feet in length. An ILS is provided for runway 21. The field elevation is 10 feet.
ATIS broadcasts on 130.425 MHz, and the tower operates on 119.6 MHz. An ILS is available for runway 21.
Regular air traffic to Mariehamn began in 1940. The airport underwent many improvements during the 1960s, and in the 1970s its navigational aids, instrument landing system and radio equipment were renewed to further develop flight safety. Air traffic control and its technical equipment were modernised in the 1980s. On 8 November 1963 a Douglas DC-3 operating as Aero Flight 217 crashed while approaching the airport, resulting in 22 deaths. The terminal building was renovated and its passenger area expanded in 1991, and in 1997 a customs frontier was implemented between Åland and mainland Finland, extending tax-free shopping to domestic passengers as well.
Mariehamn Airport continues to handle both scheduled commercial services and general aviation. Finnair operates flights to Helsinki, and PopulAir serves Stockholm-Arlanda and Turku. As Åland lies outside the EU VAT area, the airport also offers tax-free shopping to travellers, though this has no bearing on flying operations.
