MY FS FLIGHTS
Coral Creek Airport (FA54) is a private-use airfield on the Cape Haze Peninsula near Placida, Florida, serving as the private gateway to nearby Boca Grande. Operated as the Boca Grande Jet Center, it offers a single well-equipped hard-surface runway with pilot-controlled lighting and a PAPI, but access is restricted to members and their guests. For the simulator pilot it is an interesting study in an exclusive, uncontrolled Gulf-coast strip capable of handling business jets.
Coral Creek Airport, trading as the Boca Grande Jet Center, is a privately owned airfield in Placida, Florida, on the Cape Haze Peninsula, about two miles northeast of the resort community of Boca Grande. It is a members-and-guests facility rather than a public airport, and it caters to private and corporate traffic visiting the Boca Grande area, including nearby tarpon-fishing grounds, beaches and the Coral Creek Club golf course. For a sim pilot it offers a compact, well-lit single-runway operation typical of an exclusive coastal Florida strip, with no air traffic control tower and a genuinely private character.
The airfield lies in uncontrolled airspace over the Cape Haze Peninsula in Charlotte County, Florida, close to Placida and about two miles northeast of Boca Grande on Gasparilla Island. It sits within the area covered by Fort Myers Approach Control, and pilots would expect to work with that facility for clearance or approach services when operating in the vicinity. The field appears on the Miami sectional chart.
Coral Creek Airport has a single physical runway, 05/23, oriented northeast-southwest. Runway 05 is 5,700 feet long and Runway 23 is 5,514 feet long, both hard-surfaced and lit.
The airport advisory and CTAF frequency is 130.65 MHz, used for airport advisory calls on the uncontrolled field. An AWOS is associated with the airport on frequency 120.0. Fort Myers Approach Control/Clearance can be contacted on 121.62 for arrivals and departures. Runway lighting, including MIRL, REILs, taxiway lighting and a rotating beacon, is pilot-activated on 130.65, and a PAPI is provided for visual approach guidance. There is no ILS, though a private FAA-approved RNAV (GPS) approach exists, usable only with the required FAA authorisation.
Coral Creek operates as an uncontrolled field with no air traffic control tower, so pilots fly a standard traffic pattern and make position calls on the 130.65 MHz advisory frequency. Runway lighting and the PAPI are pilot-activated on this same frequency, which is useful for night or low-visibility arrivals. Given the airport's private status, guests would normally need to have arranged access and briefing details in advance of joining the pattern.
The airfield is readily identified by its position on the Cape Haze Peninsula, roughly two miles northeast of Boca Grande and close to Gasparilla Road. The Coral Creek Club golf course lies a short distance to the south, and the surrounding waterways and barrier islands of the Charlotte Harbor area provide clear coastal reference points when inbound from over the Gulf of Mexico or the harbor.
Coral Creek Airport originally opened in the mid-1960s as Rotonda International Airport. It has since developed into a private facility operating under the Boca Grande Jet Center name, serving members and their guests with access to the Boca Grande area. The airport has at times undergone expansion work, and its private, members-only character has been maintained throughout its operating history, with traffic levels varying considerably from day to day given its restricted nature.
Today Coral Creek Airport functions as a private airport with access limited to members and accompanying guests; prior permission is required before any visit. It is served by a full-service FBO, the Boca Grande Jet Center, which provides hangar facilities capable of accommodating aircraft up to Gulfstream and Global business-jet size, subject to space availability. The single runway, 05/23, is equipped with medium-intensity runway lighting, REILs, taxiway lighting, a rotating beacon and a PAPI, all reflecting an airfield set up for capable private and corporate aviation rather than casual visiting traffic.
