Constructed between 2001 and 2013 with the help of Chinese financing, it sits near the village of Ollombo and is notable for a runway of exceptional length relative to the level of traffic it has historically handled, making it an intriguing and unusual stop for virtual pilots flying in the region.

The airport lies in the Plateaux Department of the Republic of the Congo, near the village of Ollombo in the Nkeni-Alima district, roughly 9 kilometres southwest of the town of Oyo which it serves. It is a remote field set within otherwise undeveloped central African terrain, with no other major aerodromes in the immediate vicinity; the nearest significant airports are well over 250 kilometres away, including Maya Maya Airport at Brazzaville.

The airfield has a single physical runway, 04/22, which is 10,841 feet long with a hard surface and runway lighting. An ILS is provided for approaches to runway 04.

An information service operates on 119.1 MHz under the callsign Ollombo Info. A non-directional beacon, identifier OTK, is located on the airfield, and instrument approaches are supported by the ILS serving runway 04.

History

Oyo Ollombo Airport was constructed between 2001 and 2013 with financial assistance from China. As of August 2016, the airport had no scheduled airline services, despite the scale of the infrastructure built. The field is also known by the name Denis Sassou Nguesso Airport.
