Lee Airport (KANP/ANP) is a public-use general aviation airport in Edgewater, Maryland, privately owned and operated by the Lee Airport Authority. It sits five nautical miles southwest of downtown Annapolis, separated from the city by the South River, and is a popular but demanding destination for light aircraft pilots because of its short, narrow single runway and surrounding obstacles.

Airspace & Location

The airport lies in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, on the south side of the South River from Annapolis, the state capital. Radio contact for arrivals and departures is provided through Potomac Approach/Departure, indicating the field operates within the wider Potomac TRACON environment; pilots should expect to coordinate with this facility when transiting to or from the airport.

Runways

Lee Airport has a single physical runway, 12/30, hard-surfaced and lit. Landing distances differ by direction because of displaced thresholds at each end: 2,016 feet is available on runway 12 and 1,965 feet on runway 30. The runway is notably narrow, and pilots should plan approaches with care given the restricted margins.

History

Lee Airport has long served as a general aviation facility for the Annapolis area, remaining in private ownership under the Lee Airport Authority based in Edgewater. In the twelve months to March 2023 the airport recorded 11,646 aircraft operations, averaging 32 per day, with the great majority being general aviation traffic and a small proportion military. At that time 69 aircraft were based there, almost all single-engine types.

The field continues to support an active training and general aviation community, including the National Aviation Flight Center, a Part 141 flight school operating from the airport. Pilots planning a visit should note the airport's small size, short runway, narrow width and surrounding obstacles, all of which demand careful approach planning regardless of aircraft type.
