West Michigan Regional Airport (KBIV), formerly known as Tulip City Airport, is a community-owned general aviation field just south of Holland, Michigan, on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. It offers a single long, lit instrumented runway and a resident flight school, making it a useful and approachable destination for VFR pilots exploring West Michigan.
West Michigan Regional Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving the city of Holland, Michigan. It is owned and operated by the West Michigan Airport Authority, a partnership between the City of Holland, the City of Zeeland and Park Township, and is home to a flight school, numerous businesses and private hangars. For a simulator pilot, its single long runway with an ILS, its ASOS weather feed and its straightforward setting make it a practical and pleasant stop in the West Michigan region.
The airport lies in Ottawa and Allegan counties, Michigan, about two nautical miles south of the central business district of Holland. Approach and departure control for the area is provided by Muskegon Approach/Departure, and IFR clearance delivery is also handled by Muskegon. En route guidance in the vicinity can be obtained from Lansing radio.
West Michigan Regional Airport has one physical runway, 08/26, with a hard surface measuring 5,985 feet and lit for night operations. Runway 26 is equipped with an ILS approach, giving pilots an instrument option when approaching from the east.
Air-to-ground communications are available on 119.8 MHz for Muskegon Approach/Departure. Airport weather is broadcast on the ASOS frequency 119.025 MHz. IFR clearance delivery is provided by Muskegon Clearance Delivery on 123.95 MHz, and Lansing Radio can be reached on 112.1 MHz. The common traffic advisory frequency and unicom is 123.05 MHz.
The airport was formerly known as Tulip City Airport before the West Michigan Airport Authority formally voted in October 2011 to rename it West Michigan Regional Airport. A regional airport authority covering Holland, Zeeland and Park Township was authorised by area voters in November 2008. The field covers 432 acres and, in 2021, served as a stop on the Civil Air Patrol's Operation Good Cheer, delivering gifts to children in need in the area.
West Michigan Regional Airport today is home to a flight school, dozens of businesses and numerous private hangars, reflecting its role as a working general aviation field for the Holland area. The airport has recently invested in infrastructure, including the completion of a North Business Park taxi lane and a new above-ground fuel storage farm, and it was selected as one of four Michigan airports to receive electric aviation charging infrastructure. Winter operations are managed under a dedicated Snow and Ice Control Plan, with runway 08/26 and its principal taxiway cleared first to keep the field operational through Michigan's snowy winters.
