Concord Municipal Airport is a general aviation field two miles east of downtown Concord, New Hampshire, owned by the City of Concord and operated by Concord Aviation Services. It offers a long ILS-equipped main runway alongside a shorter crosswind strip, making it a straightforward VFR or IFR destination within the Boston Approach/Departure airspace.
Concord Municipal Airport sits on the eastern edge of Concord, New Hampshire's state capital, and functions as a general aviation facility owned by the City of Concord and operated by Concord Aviation Services. It has hosted everything from corporate jets to military C-130 transports, and is notable for its role during the New Hampshire presidential primary season and as the twice-yearly arrival point for the NASCAR fly-in ahead of races at the nearby New Hampshire Motor Speedway. For a sim pilot, its long lit runway with ILS, mix of based military and state aviation units, and proximity to busier Manchester-Boston Regional make it an interesting and approachable New England GA field.
The airport lies about two miles east of the central business district of Concord, in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, and falls under the Boston Approach/Departure control area, reachable on 127.35 MHz. Manchester-Boston Regional Airport lies some 20 miles to the south and has taken over much of the commercial traffic that once used Concord.
Concord Municipal has two physical runways. Runway 17/35 is the primary strip at 6,005 ft (rounded to 6,000 ft), hard-surfaced and lit, with runway 35 served by an ILS. Runway 12/30 is a shorter hard-surfaced strip of about 3,192 ft, unlit. Field elevation is 338 ft.
Air traffic services are provided through Boston Approach/Departure on 127.35 MHz. ASOS weather information is broadcast on 132.32 MHz, and clearance delivery is available on 133.65 MHz. Army National Guard operations use 32.1 MHz, and there is a Bangor Radio frequency of 122.3 MHz. UNICOM/CTAF is on 122.7 MHz. Runway 35 is equipped with an ILS for instrument approaches.
Concord Municipal Airport once had scheduled airline service operated by Northeast Airlines, before Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, roughly 20 miles south via the F.E. Everett Turnpike, took over most commercial and a good share of general aviation traffic. The field is included in the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems as a local general aviation facility.
The airport covers around 614 to 697 acres and is home to Concord Aviation Services, which provides full and self-service 100LL fuel and full-service Jet A, along with mechanical work on both its own and customer aircraft. Facilities include roughly 35,000 square feet of heated hangars, a dozen private T-hangars, long-term tie-down space, a maintenance shop and an avionics shop. The field also hosts the New Hampshire Army National Guard and New Hampshire State Police Aviation hangars, and welcomes aircraft as large as a Boeing 727 or a military C-130.
