Sedalia Memorial Airport (KDMO), also known historically and today as Sedalia Regional Airport, is a city-owned general aviation field two miles east of Sedalia in Pettis County, Missouri. It offers a long hard-surfaced main runway and a shorter crosswind strip, with unicom-only radio coverage and no instrument landing system, making it a straightforward VFR destination for visiting pilots.
Sedalia Memorial Airport, now more commonly styled Sedalia Regional Airport, is a public general aviation aerodrome owned by the City of Sedalia and situated in Pettis County, Missouri. It has long served as the principal airfield for the Sedalia area, handling a mix of local general aviation, air taxi and occasional military traffic, and is best known among sim pilots for the light aircraft and business jets that call in during the Missouri State Fair.
The airfield lies about two miles east of downtown Sedalia in west-central Missouri. It is an uncontrolled field, with approach and departure services in the surrounding airspace provided by Whiteman Approach and Whiteman Departure, reflecting its position within the wider area worked by nearby Whiteman Air Force Base. Flight service style radio support is available from Columbia Radio.
Sedalia Memorial Airport has two physical runways. The primary runway, 18/36, is 5,468 feet long with a hard surface and is lit. The secondary runway, 05/23, is 3,485 feet long, also with a hard surface, but is not noted as lit. There is no ILS at the field.
Pilots should expect to operate on 122.8 MHz for CTAF/Unicom, as there is no control tower at Sedalia. Whiteman Approach can be contacted on 127.45 MHz and Whiteman Departure on 125.925 MHz for traffic in the surrounding airspace. The automated weather observation (ASOS) broadcasts on 120.525 MHz, and Columbia Radio, providing flight service support, is available on 122.05 MHz.
The airport was formerly known as Sedalia Memorial Airport before adopting the name Sedalia Regional Airport, and it remains owned and operated by the City of Sedalia. It has been classified under the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems as a general aviation facility. The field has a notable place in local aviation folklore: the largest aircraft ever recorded landing there reportedly belonged to Bill Cosby, who arrived to perform at the Missouri State Fair, with the second largest belonging to Hank Williams Jr. on a similar visit.
Sedalia remains an active general aviation airport, with aircraft operations historically averaging around 26 per day, split roughly two-thirds general aviation, a quarter air taxi, and the remainder military. In the most recent recorded figures, 18 aircraft were based at the field, the majority single-engine types, with smaller numbers of multi-engine aircraft, jets and helicopters. The airfield covers some 507 acres and continues to support local flying activity alongside occasional seasonal traffic tied to the Missouri State Fair.
