MY FS FLIGHTS
Friday Harbor Airport (KFHR) sits on San Juan Island in Washington's San Juan Islands, just southwest of the town of Friday Harbor itself. Operated by the Port of Friday Harbor, it is a busy general aviation and commuter hub serving the islands, and is well known to simulator pilots as the default starting location in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
Friday Harbor Airport is a public-use aerodrome on San Juan Island, owned and operated by the Port of Friday Harbor. It handles a mix of general aviation, air taxi and scheduled commuter traffic serving the San Juan Islands, and its compact single-runway layout amid island scenery makes it a popular and recognisable destination for simulator pilots, not least because it is the default starting airport in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
The airport lies just southwest of the town centre of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, within easy walking distance of downtown. Traffic in the area is coordinated with Whidbey Approach/Departure on 118.2 MHz.
Friday Harbor has a single physical runway, 16/34, measuring 3,366 feet with a hard surface and runway lighting. There is no ILS approach.
The Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) is 128.25 MHz. Whidbey Approach/Departure provides air traffic services on 118.2 MHz, and the field's ASOS weather broadcast is on 135.675 MHz.
The runway and airport are located immediately southwest of downtown Friday Harbor, with the town and harbour serving as an obvious visual reference for pilots approaching San Juan Island.
Friday Harbor Airport is owned by the Port of Friday Harbor and is included in the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems as a non-hub primary commercial service facility. It has long supported freight and passenger movements to and from the mainland, including historic use of aircraft such as the Beechcraft Model 18 for freight runs to the islands.
The airport is described by its operator as the premier aviation destination in the San Juan Islands, offering a US Customs point of entry, aviation fuel, aircraft repair and maintenance, and flight instruction. Scheduled services connect Friday Harbor with destinations including Seattle, Bellingham, Anacortes, and Victoria, operated by carriers such as Kenmore Air and San Juan Airlines, alongside cargo feeder flights. The airport office has traditionally kept hours of 8am to 5pm daily. Friday Harbor is also notable to simulator pilots as the default starting airfield in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
