Fond du Lac County Airport is a county-owned general aviation airport on the western edge of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, offering a long primary runway with an instrument landing system alongside a shorter crosswind strip. It is a popular overflow field during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, when the FAA stands up a temporary control tower to help manage the extra traffic, and it is home to a resident EAA chapter and a full-service FBO.
Fond du Lac County Airport is a publicly owned, county-operated general aviation field serving the city of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. It is home to EAA Chapter 572 and to the Fond du Lac Skyport, the airport's fixed base operator, which provides charter flights, aircraft maintenance, fuelling, hangarage, flight training and aircraft rental. The field is of particular interest to visiting pilots each summer, as it serves as one of the designated alternative airports for traffic diverting away from Wittman Regional Airport during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.
The airport lies about one mile west of the central business district of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, in Fond du Lac County. There is no permanent control tower on the field.
The airport has two physical runways. The primary runway, 18/36, is 5,937 feet long with a hard surface and runway lighting; runway 36 is additionally served by an instrument landing system. The crosswind runway, 09/27, is 3,583 feet long, also hard-surfaced and lit.
Pilots can expect ASOS on 134 MHz. Chicago Center provides en-route radar service on 127 MHz, and Green Bay Radio (flight service) is available on 122.5 MHz. The airport's CTAF/UNICOM frequency is 122.8 MHz. Runway 36 is equipped with an instrument landing system for approaches to the primary runway.
Fond du Lac County Airport is normally uncontrolled. Each year during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, however, the FAA establishes a temporary air traffic control tower at the field to help manage the increase in traffic diverted from Wittman Regional Airport, with shuttle buses running between the airport and the AirVenture grounds during the event.
The airport dates from October 1958. It is included in the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2025-2029, where it is categorised as a regional general aviation facility, and it is home to EAA Chapter 572. Its role as an overflow airport during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, with a temporary FAA-operated control tower and shuttle bus links to the AirVenture grounds, is a notable part of its more recent operational history.
The airport covers 586 acres and is home to around 60 based aircraft, predominantly single-engine types with a smaller number of multi-engine and jet aircraft, supporting roughly 63,200 aircraft operations a year, the great majority general aviation with a small proportion of air taxi and military movements. The Fond du Lac Skyport operates as the field's sole FBO, offering on-demand charter flights, aircraft maintenance, fuelling, hangar services, flight training and aircraft rental. The airport also has more than 40 general aviation hangars with room for further growth.
