Grangeville Airport is a small, uncontrolled general aviation airfield serving Grangeville in north-central Idaho, sitting high on the Camas Prairie at an elevation of 2,559 feet. It offers a single grass runway and has a long association with local agricultural flying, including crop dusting operations based in the area.

Overview

Grangeville Airport is a modest public-use airfield located at Grangeville, Idaho, in the rolling farmland of the Camas Prairie in the north-central part of the state. It is a field of local rather than regional significance, historically linked to agricultural aviation, and of interest to sim pilots wanting an authentic backcountry-Idaho grass-strip experience at altitude.

Airspace & Location

The airfield lies at an elevation of 2,559 feet in Grangeville, Idaho. It is an uncontrolled field with no published air traffic control service; pilots should expect to operate under see-and-avoid procedures typical of small Idaho general aviation airstrips.

Runways

Grangeville Airport has a single physical runway, 10/28, with a grass surface measuring 1,192 feet in length. There is no lighting and no instrument landing system, so the field is suited to visual approaches only.

History

The airfield has long been tied to the region's agricultural flying culture. William C. Jarvis, a retired crop duster pilot who had flown for 40 years after his military discharge, managed the Grangeville Airport for ten years following his retirement from crop dusting, continuing until ill health forced him to step down. He lived in Grangeville for eleven years during this period.

The Airfield Today

Grangeville Airport remains a small grass-runway general aviation field. Given its short 1,192-foot runway and lack of lighting or instrument approach aids, it is best suited to light aircraft operating in good visual conditions.
