Henderson Executive Airport is a busy general and corporate aviation reliever field in the Las Vegas Valley, sitting some 12-13 miles south of the Strip in Henderson, Nevada. It offers two parallel hard-surfaced runways, a control tower, and a full range of business-aviation services, making it a popular alternative destination to Harry Reid International for visiting simulator pilots.

Overview

Henderson Executive Airport (KHND, FAA identifier HND, IATA code HSH) is a public-use, government-owned airport in Henderson, Nevada, some 12 to 13 miles south of the Las Vegas Strip. It is owned by the Clark County Commission and operated by the Clark County Department of Aviation, which also runs North Las Vegas, Jean and Overton airports. The field is primarily used for general and corporate aviation, hosting basic flight training alongside large cabin-class business jets, and is marketed as a convenient, less congested alternative to the much busier Harry Reid International Airport.

Airspace & Location

Henderson Executive lies within Class D airspace that is itself surrounded by, and sits beneath, the Class B airspace of Las Vegas's Harry Reid International Airport, so pilots transiting or arriving in the area need to be mindful of the overlying Bravo shelf as well as the Delta surface area around the field itself. The airport is located in West Henderson, close to Interstate 15 and the 215 beltway, in the southern part of the Las Vegas Valley.

Runways

The airport has two parallel hard-surfaced runways, both lit. Runway 17R/35L is 6,494 feet long, and runway 17L/35R is 4,994 feet long. There is no ILS approach published for the field.

Radio & Navigation

Henderson Executive is served by Las Vegas Approach/Departure on 118.4 MHz. The airport's own ASOS broadcasts on 120.775 MHz. The tower/CTAF frequency is 125.1 MHz, with ground control on 127.8 MHz. A remote Reno Radio flight-service outlet is available on 122.35 MHz, and UNICOM is on 122.95 MHz. The tower operates from 0600 to 2000 year-round; outside these hours 125.1 MHz should be used as the CTAF.

History

The airport was founded by Arby Alper in 1967 on 912 acres purchased from the city of Henderson and opened in 1970 as Sky Harbor Airport. Clark County acquired the field in 1996 and renamed it Henderson Executive Airport. It has since been developed and categorised by the FAA as a reliever airport for the Las Vegas area.

The Airfield Today

Henderson Executive today functions as a primary reliever to Harry Reid International, handling a mix of flight training, air taxi and corporate jet traffic; recent FAA figures cite around 78,000 annual operations and some 256 based aircraft, comprising single and multi-engine piston aircraft, jets and helicopters. The airport itself operates 24 hours, with the FBO active from 0500 to 2230 and the tower staffed from 0600 to 2000 year-round. Full-service Jet A and 100LL fuel are available during FBO hours, with self-service 100LL available around the clock via credit card. The terminal complex includes car rental, line service, a flight school presence, and a restaurant, and the field is home to the Desert Flying Club among other based operators.
