Overview

Hastings Municipal Airport (KHSI) is a publicly owned general aviation airport serving Hastings, Nebraska, and is operated by the City of Hastings. The airport's Hangar No. 1 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, giving the field a tangible link to its mid-twentieth-century airline days.

History

The current Hastings Municipal Airport was constructed as a permanent airfield in 1930. It went on to host scheduled airline service, beginning with Mid-West Airlines Cessna 190 flights in 1950-51, followed by Frontier Airlines Douglas DC-3s from 1959; Frontier's Convair 580s were the last scheduled airliners to serve the field, departing in 1979. Hangar No. 1 at the airport is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, reflecting this early aviation heritage.

The Airfield Today

Hastings Municipal remains an active general aviation airport, with 22,700 aircraft operations recorded in the year ending April 27, 2022, an average of 62 per day, of which 97 percent were general aviation, 3 percent air taxi, and less than 1 percent military.
