Springerville Municipal Airport (KJTC) is a town-owned public-use airfield in the White Mountains of east-central Arizona, lying about one nautical mile west of the town of Springerville. Sitting at a lofty 7,034 feet above sea level, it offers two hard-surfaced runways and serves general aviation traffic for the surrounding Round Valley communities of Springerville and Eagar.

Overview

Springerville Municipal Airport is a town-owned, public-use aerodrome in Apache County, Arizona, situated in the White Mountains region roughly one nautical mile west of the central business district of Springerville. For the simulator pilot it is notable chiefly for its high field elevation of 7,034 feet, which brings genuine density-altitude and performance considerations to what is otherwise a quiet rural general aviation strip serving the twin communities of Springerville and Eagar.

Airspace & Location

The airport lies within the White Mountains of central-eastern Arizona, close to the New Mexico border, in the area known as Round Valley shared by the neighbouring towns of Springerville and Eagar. It sits about one nautical mile west of Springerville's town centre.

Runways

Springerville Municipal has two paved (hard-surface) runways. The longer is Runway 03/21, at 8,428 feet, while the shorter crosswind runway is 11/29, at 4,596 feet. There is no ILS at the field.

Visual Reference Points

The airport can be located by reference to the town of Springerville itself, roughly one nautical mile to the east, with the neighbouring town of Eagar and the broader Round Valley basin providing further orientation amid the surrounding White Mountains terrain.

History

Springerville Municipal Airport is a town-owned, public-use facility that has long served the Round Valley communities of Springerville and Eagar. Its mission has been described as developing, providing and maintaining air transportation facilities for Arizona's White Mountains region through safe and effective service. A new terminal facility at the airport was completed in the spring of 2013.

The Airfield Today

The airport continues to operate as a general aviation field for the White Mountains region, with its current terminal building dating from 2013. The operator has noted planned improvements including apron relocation and expansion, improved signage and lighting, perimeter wildlife fencing, and facilities for snow removal equipment, and the airport has land and properties available for aviation and industrial development.
