Newport Municipal has two paved, lit runway pairs. Runway 16/34 is the primary strip, with runway 16 measuring 5,378 feet and runway 34 measuring 5,071 feet, both hard-surfaced and lit; an ILS approach is available to runway 16. The secondary runway pair, 02/20, is also hard-surfaced and lit, with runway 20 measuring 3,045 feet and runway 02 measuring 2,987 feet. The field sits at an elevation of 148 feet.
Pilots can obtain automated weather from the AWOS on 133.9 MHz. The field is non-towered, with traffic advisories handled on the CTAF/UNICOM frequency of 122.8 MHz. Seattle Center provides en-route and approach/departure radar services on 125.8 MHz. An ILS approach is published for runway 16.
Newport Municipal Airport formerly supported scheduled commercial passenger service, with SeaPort Airlines operating flights connecting the field to Portland International Airport until that service was discontinued in July 2011. FAA records show the airport handled 1,999 passenger boardings in 2009 and 3,027 in 2010, reflecting its earlier role in regional air travel before commercial flights ceased.
Newport Municipal covers around 700 acres and functions today as a general aviation airport, with 35 aircraft based on the field, comprising single and multi-engine types, a jet, helicopters and a small military presence. In the twelve months to July 2020 the airport recorded about 19,950 aircraft operations, averaging 55 per day, split between general aviation, military and air taxi traffic. It also supports scheduled cargo flights, with Ameriflight and FedEx Feeder operating to Corvallis, Portland and Salem. The City of Newport, which owns the airport, describes it as a full-service facility offering a range of amenities and support for pilots and passengers.
