Port Isabel Cameron County Airport is a small, uncontrolled general aviation field on the Texas Gulf coast near Port Isabel and South Padre Island. It offers an unusually long primary runway for a field of its size, along with three shorter crossing strips, and has in recent years become a base for warbird airshow operations.
Port Isabel Cameron County Airport serves the Port Isabel and South Padre Island area of the lower Texas Gulf coast. It is a general aviation field rather than a commercial airport, notable to visiting pilots for its long hard-surfaced main runway and for hosting the Commemorative Air Force's regional airshow, which gives it a periodic role as a gathering point for vintage and warbird aircraft.
The airfield lies at Port Isabel, Texas, close to the Gulf coast and South Padre Island, within the area served by Valley approach and departure control. It sits outside the Brownsville and Rio Grande Valley controlled airspace core but within reach of Valley approach/departure frequencies for transiting or arriving traffic.
The airfield has four paved runways. The main runway, 13/31, is 7,960 feet long, hard-surfaced and lit. Runway 08/26 is 5,310 feet, runway 03/21 is 5,002 feet, and runway 17/35 is 4,202 feet, all with hard surfaces. Field elevation is 13 feet and there is no ILS.
Traffic works on CTAF/UNICOM at 122.8 MHz. An ASOS is available on 118.525 MHz. Valley approach/departure can be contacted on 119.5 MHz, and clearance delivery is available on 119.2 MHz.
The airfield became the new home of the Commemorative Air Force's regional airshow, with the 2019 event marking the first show held at Port Isabel Cameron County Airport after the display moved from its previous site.
The field remains an uncontrolled general aviation airport with CTAF/UNICOM and ASOS coverage, and has hosted Commemorative Air Force airshow events featuring aerobatic performers and vintage military aircraft.
