Placerville Airport is a small general aviation field in the Sierra foothills of El Dorado County, California, some three miles east of the town of Placerville. It offers a single asphalt runway and remains a busy training and touring base for the region, with no scheduled airline service.

Placerville Airport is a public-use general aviation aerodrome owned by El Dorado County, lying in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California. It sits about three miles east of downtown Placerville and has never supported scheduled airline service beyond a brief Piper Navajo commuter operation in 1977-78, making it today essentially a general aviation and training field of interest to VFR pilots exploring the Gold Country.

History

Placerville Airport's only recorded scheduled airline service was a short-lived operation by California Air Commuter, which flew Piper Navajo aircraft to Placerville between 1977 and 1978. Since then the field has continued as a general aviation airport without further scheduled commercial flights.

The Airfield Today

As of the most recent published figures, the airport handled around 66,000 aircraft operations a year, averaging about 180 movements per day, with the great majority (97 percent) general aviation traffic and small proportions of air taxi and military activity. At that time 138 aircraft were based at the field, the large majority single-engine types, with smaller numbers of multi-engine aircraft, a helicopter, and an ultralight. There are no scheduled passenger airline services operating from Placerville.
