Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) is a major Class B international hub serving Seattle, Washington, with three long parallel runways and full ILS coverage on each. For a simulator pilot it offers a demanding, high-traffic environment typical of a large US commercial gateway, with multiple controlled frequencies and precision approaches to fly.

Overview

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, generally known as Sea-Tac, sits at Seattle, Washington, United States, at an elevation of 387 feet. It is a large, heavily used international airport with three parallel hard-surfaced runways, each fitted with ILS, making it a substantial and busy destination for simulator pilots wanting to practise airline-style operations in Class B airspace with full instrument approach facilities.

Airspace & Location

Sea-Tac lies within Class B controlled airspace, reflecting its status as a major international airport. It is located at Seattle, Washington, United States, at coordinates 47.4499, -122.312.

Runways

Sea-Tac has three parallel physical runways, all hard-surfaced, lit and equipped with ILS. Runway 16L/34R is the longest at 11,885 feet. Runway 16C/34C measures 9,415 feet. Runway 16R/34L is 8,490 feet long. All three runways support ILS approaches in both directions.

Radio & Navigation

Digital ATIS is broadcast on 118.0 MHz. Clearance Delivery operates on 128.0 MHz. Seattle Ground works traffic on 121.7 MHz, and Seattle Tower on 119.9 MHz. Approach and Departure control is provided on 119.2 MHz. UNICOM is available on 122.95 MHz. Each of the three parallel runways is served by an ILS, allowing precision instrument approaches to any of the six runway ends.

Joining & Circuit Procedures

As a Class B airport, arriving and departing aircraft must be in contact with Seattle Approach/Departure on 119.2 MHz before entering the surrounding controlled airspace, with clearance and taxi instructions coordinated through Clearance Delivery, Ground and Tower on their respective frequencies.

The Airfield Today

Sea-Tac continues to operate as a major international airport with customs facilities and a high volume of scheduled traffic. Given its Class B status and its use as a major commercial hub, prior permission (PPR) should be expected for general aviation arrivals.
