Sandpoint Airport (ICAO: KSZT, FAA LID: SZT), also known locally as Dave Wall Field, is a county-owned, public-use general aviation airport serving the town of Sandpoint in Bonner County, Idaho. It sits in a striking setting between Lake Pend Oreille and the Selkirk Mountain Range, and its single instrument-equipped runway makes it an accessible destination for visiting pilots as well as a base for a substantial general aviation fleet.
The airport lies about two nautical miles north of the central business district of Sandpoint, in Bonner County in the Idaho Panhandle. It operates in uncontrolled airspace with Seattle Center providing overlying en-route service, and there is no operating control tower on the field. The surrounding terrain is dominated by Lake Pend Oreille to the south and the Selkirk Mountain Range to the north and west, both prominent features for pilots transiting the area.
Sandpoint has one physical runway, 02/20, 5,459 feet long with a hard surface and runway lighting. Runway 02 is served by an ILS approach.
Weather is available via an AWOS-3 on 135.425 MHz. There is no control tower; traffic uses the CTAF/UNICOM frequency of 122.7 MHz. Seattle Center provides en-route radar service on 123.95 MHz. An ILS is available for runway 02.
With no air traffic control tower on the field, pilots operate under standard uncontrolled-field procedures, self-announcing and coordinating traffic on the CTAF/UNICOM frequency of 122.7 MHz.
Lake Pend Oreille to the south and the Selkirk Mountain Range flanking the field are the dominant visual features for pilots approaching Sandpoint, with the town itself lying just to the south of the airport along the lakeshore.
Sandpoint Airport is a county-owned public-use facility covering some 104 acres and is also known as Dave Wall Field. Historic FAA data for the twelve months to April 2006 recorded 29,900 aircraft operations, an average of 81 per day, with 99 percent general aviation and 1 percent air taxi traffic. At that time 85 aircraft were based on the field, the great majority single-engine types, with smaller numbers of multi-engine aircraft, helicopters and a jet.
Granite Aviation operates as the airport's fixed base operator, offering full-service and self-service Jet A and avgas, aircraft deicing, rental cars, a courtesy car and bikes, and a pilot lounge open around the clock. A precision flight simulator is also available on site.
