North Las Vegas Metropolitan International Airport (KVGT), also known historically as Northtown Airport or Las Vegas North Air Terminal, is a busy general aviation field on the northern edge of Las Vegas, Nevada. It carries no scheduled airline service, making it a key reliever airport for general aviation, flight training and corporate traffic in the Las Vegas basin. North Las Vegas Metropolitan International Airport (KVGT), formerly known as Northtown Airport or Las Vegas North Air Terminal, is a general aviation airport serving the Las Vegas area of Nevada. It handles no scheduled airline service, and instead functions as a busy reliever field for general aviation, flight training and corporate operations away from the congestion of the main Las Vegas airport. For a simulator pilot it offers a tower-controlled field with three runways, including one equipped with an ILS, set against the backdrop of the Las Vegas valley.
The airport sits at 36.2107 N, 115.194 W at a field elevation of 2178 feet, in Las Vegas, Nevada. It lies close to the city itself, roughly 2 kilometres (1 nautical mile) south-southwest of Las Vegas, and about 4 kilometres (2 nautical miles) northeast of the community of North Las Vegas. Arriving and departing traffic is worked by Las Vegas Approach and, given the proximity of military airspace, Nellis Approach is also relevant to pilots operating in the area.
North Las Vegas has three physical runways. Runway 07/25 is 5,000 feet long, hard-surfaced and lit. Runway 12R/30L is 4,998 feet long, hard-surfaced and lit. Runway 12L/30R is a shorter parallel strip, 4,199 feet on the 12L threshold and 3,997 feet on the 30R threshold, hard-surfaced and lit, with an ILS serving runway 12L.
The airport uses the callsign North Las Vegas Tower. Tower and the common traffic advisory frequency are both on 125.7 MHz, with Ground on 121.7 MHz and Clearance Delivery on 124 MHz. ATIS/ASOS information is broadcast on 118.05 MHz, and UNICOM is available on 122.95 MHz. Air-to-air (A/D) traffic uses 119.4 MHz. Approach control is provided by Las Vegas Approach on 118.125 MHz, with Nellis Approach also active in the vicinity. An ILS is available for runway 12L.
