Vicksburg Municipal Airport is a small general aviation field owned and operated by the City of Vicksburg, sitting a few miles southwest of the historic Mississippi River city it serves. With a single hard-surfaced runway, no control tower, and a modest but active based fleet, it is a straightforward VFR destination for pilots visiting the Vicksburg area.

Overview

Vicksburg Municipal Airport is a city-owned general aviation airport serving Vicksburg, Mississippi, a historic community on the Mississippi River. It has no scheduled airline service and functions primarily as a base for private, business and training flying, with a single runway and no control tower, making it a typical uncontrolled field for visiting VFR pilots.

Airspace & Location

The airport lies in uncontrolled airspace southwest of downtown Vicksburg, in Warren County, Mississippi, close to the Mississippi River. There is no control tower on the field, and pilots transiting the wider area or seeking flight following can expect to work Memphis Center on 132.5 MHz.

Runways

Vicksburg Municipal has one physical runway, 01/19, which is hard-surfaced and lit. Runway 01 offers 4,702 feet of landing distance and Runway 19 offers 4,523 feet.

Radio & Navigation

The airport is uncontrolled and operates on a combined CTAF/UNICOM frequency of 122.8 MHz. For area traffic advisories and flight following outside the immediate vicinity, Memphis Center is available on 132.5 MHz. There is no ILS at the field.

Joining & Circuit Procedures

With no operating control tower, arriving and departing traffic should self-announce intentions on the CTAF/UNICOM frequency of 122.8 MHz and coordinate visually with any other traffic in the pattern.

Visual Reference Points

The airport lies about seven miles southwest of downtown Vicksburg, making the city and the Mississippi River useful general references when inbound from the northeast; pilots approaching from the surrounding countryside should look for the airfield's position off Highway 61 South.

The Airfield Today

The airport is accessible around the clock and is attended by a city contractor during its published service hours. Both 100LL and jet fuel are available, along with on-site maintenance assistance capable of handling most general aviation aircraft. Around 30 aircraft are based at the field, and a courtesy car is available on a first-come, first-served basis for pilots needing short-term local transportation.
