Paphos International Airport (ICAO: LCPH, IATA: PFO) is Cyprus's second-largest airport, sited on the south coast some 6.5 kilometres south-east of the city of Paphos. It is a joint civil-military field, hosting scheduled and charter airline traffic alongside a Cyprus National Guard air base, and offers a single long, ILS-equipped runway well suited to the wide range of aircraft using it.

Overview

Paphos International Airport serves the city of Paphos and the resorts of western Cyprus, including Coral Bay and, further afield, Limassol. It is a joint civil-military public airport, sharing its site with a Cyprus National Guard air base known by the call sign "Andreas Papandreou", located on the north-eastern part of the airfield. For a visiting sim pilot it offers a substantial single runway, full ILS approach aids, and a busy mix of holiday charter and low-cost airline traffic set against the backdrop of the Mediterranean coastline.

Airspace & Location

The airport lies near the villages of Timi and Acheleia, about 6.5 kilometres south-east of Paphos city, on the south-western coast of Cyprus. It is Cyprus's second busiest airport after Larnaca International, and shares its site with a Cyprus National Guard air base on the north-eastern side of the field, making Paphos a mixed civil-military aerodrome.

Runways

Paphos has a single physical runway, 11/29, with a hard surface measuring 8,833 feet in length. Both thresholds are lit, and runway 29 is equipped with an ILS approach, making it the primary instrument runway for arrivals.

Radio & Navigation

Approach control is provided on 120.8 MHz and Tower on 119.9 MHz. Runway 29 is served by an ILS, supporting instrument approaches into the field.

History

Paphos Airport opened in 1982 and has grown into the country's second-largest airport. In May 2006 Hermes Airports Limited took over the construction, development and operation of both Larnaca and Paphos airports under a 25-year concession. A new passenger terminal opened in November 2008, part of a wider investment programme that also brought a new control tower and an expanded aircraft parking area, allowing the field to handle larger aircraft types. The airport also functions as a Cyprus National Guard air base under the call sign "Andreas Papandreou", reflecting its continuing joint civil-military role.

The Airfield Today

Paphos remains a busy joint civil-military airport, handling scheduled and seasonal charter flights from airlines including Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2.com, TUI Airways, British Airways, Aegean Airlines and Wizz Air, with destinations across the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Passenger numbers have grown steadily, reaching over 3.8 million in 2025. Alongside its civil airline operations, the airfield continues to host a Cyprus National Guard air base on its north-eastern side.
