The airport lies at Biard, about 2.4 kilometres west of Poitiers, in the Vienne department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. It sits on the western ring road around Poitiers, roughly halfway between the city centre and the Futuroscope area, making it an easily identifiable landmark for pilots approaching from east or west.
Poitiers-Biard has three physical runway pairs. The main runway, 03/21, is 7707 feet long, has a hard surface and is lit, suitable for the airport's scheduled jet traffic. A second runway, 03L/21R, is a lit grass strip 3931 feet long. A third, shorter grass runway, 03R/21L, is also lit, with published lengths of 2003 feet on the 03R threshold and 1843 feet on the 21L threshold. There is no ILS at the field.
Poitiers Approach operates on 130.9 MHz. The airport ATIS broadcasts on 121.775 MHz, and Poitiers Information can be reached on 120.775 MHz. Poitiers Tower works on 118.5 MHz. No instrument landing system is available at Biard.
Poitiers-Biard is managed by EDEIS and handles a small number of scheduled routes, including flights to London, Edinburgh and Lyon, alongside general aviation activity. Two flying clubs are based on the field, the Aéroclub du Poitou and the ASP86 Aéroclub, both offering recreational flying from the airport, which gives visiting pilots a genuine light aviation community to engage with when planning a visit.
