Angers-Loire Airport lies at Marcé, some 20 kilometres northeast of Angers in the Maine-et-Loire department of the Pays de la Loire region. Opened in 1998 as a replacement for the historic Avrillé airfield, it now operates without scheduled commercial traffic and offers a mix of hard and grass runways under an AFIS service, making it a straightforward VFR destination for visiting pilots.
Angers-Loire Airport (ICAO LFJR, IATA ANE), also known as Angers-Marcé, serves the city of Angers from its site at Marcé. It replaced the old Avrillé airfield, which dated back to 1908 and had become hemmed in by urban growth. Today the airport has no scheduled passenger services and functions mainly for general aviation, training and occasional special operations, making it a quiet and approachable field for a simulator pilot exploring the Loire valley region.
The airport is located in the commune of Marcé, in the Maine-et-Loire department of the Pays de la Loire region, about 20 kilometres (11 nautical miles) northeast of the city of Angers.
Angers-Loire has three physical runway pairs. The main hard-surfaced runway, 08/26, is lit and measures 5960 ft from the threshold of runway 08 and 5470 ft from the threshold of runway 26. There are two parallel grass runways, also lit: 08R/26L at 3647 ft, and the shorter 08L/26R at 2408 ft. The field elevation is 171 ft.
The airport is served by an Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) under the callsign ANGERS INFO on 124.705 MHz. There is no ILS at the field.
The airport opened on 2 September 1998, replacing the old Avrillé airfield that had operated since 1908 but had become surrounded by urban development. Between 1998 and the end of 2016 it received commercial flights from several airlines, though these connections did not prove sustainable. On 26 December 2016 the control tower's air traffic control service was closed by the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGAC), which forced foreign carriers such as British Airways to withdraw their routes. From 2017, Air France HOP operated a seasonal Saturday service to Bastia during the summer, expanding it in 2019 before the route was suspended due to the COVID-19 crisis; it was formally cancelled in April 2021, and as of November 2022 the airport had no scheduled passenger flights. Management passed to the company Edeis on 1 January 2019. In 2020 a pelicandrome was established on site in collaboration with the Maine-et-Loire fire and rescue service (SDIS) to support aerial firefighting operations, and during the pandemic the airport played a role in transporting patients around France. The airport received Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) certification in March 2023, and in July 2025 it hosted a stage of the Elektro Tour, an aeronautical project promoting sustainable aviation that included the first crossing of the Channel by a certified electric aircraft.
Angers-Loire Airport currently has no scheduled passenger flights, having lost its last commercial route in 2021. It continues to support general aviation and special operations, including a pelicandrome used for aerial firefighting support, and hosted a stage of the 2025 Elektro Tour promoting sustainable aviation. Radio communication is provided through an AFIS service on ANGERS INFO, 124.705 MHz.
