The field sits at Moissy-Cramayel, about 40 kilometres southeast of central Paris, within the Ile-de-France region. Approach traffic is handled by Seine Approach on 118.05 MHz, indicating the field lies within the Paris-area approach structure serving the wider Seine sector. Pilots should expect to coordinate with this approach frequency before joining, given the proximity of other controlled aerodromes in the Paris TMA environment.
Melun-Villaroche has two paved runway pairs, both hard-surfaced and lit. Runway 10/28 is the longer, with runway 10 measuring 6356 feet and runway 28 measuring 6179 feet. Runway 01/19 is shorter, with runway 19 at 4492 feet and runway 01 at 4265 feet. Field elevation is 299 feet. There is no ILS at the field, so any approach must be flown visually.
Melun-Villaroche is served by Seine Approach on 118.05 MHz for arrivals and departures in the wider area, with an ATIS broadcast on 128.175 MHz for current field conditions. The tower, callsign Melun Tower, operates on 121.1 MHz to provide aerodrome control. There is no ILS or other published instrument approach at the field.
Melun-Villaroche has a layered wartime history, having been successively occupied by French, German and American forces during the Second World War, reflecting its strategic value as an airfield in the approaches to Paris. In more recent times it has become a fixture on the French airshow calendar as the home of the Air Legend event, which by its 2025 edition had reached its seventh year, organised by Editions Larivière following the death of the show's founder, Christian Amara.
The airfield continues to carry a military tag and hosts no scheduled airline services. Its best-known current activity for the wider public is the annual Air Legend airshow, held on a weekend in early September, which draws aviation enthusiasts to Melun-Villaroche with a programme of historic aircraft; the 2025 edition took place on 6 and 7 September with public opening at 0900 and displays running until 1800. Aerodrome-specific NOTAMs are issued around this event to manage the associated airspace restrictions. Pilots planning a visit outside such events should treat the field as an active facility with tower and approach services as described, and should confirm current operating arrangements before flight.
