St Pierre Airport (ICAO LFVP, IATA FSP), also known as Saint-Pierre Pointe-Blanche, serves the town of Saint-Pierre in the French overseas collectivity of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, lying just off the south coast of Newfoundland, Canada. It is a small but well-equipped airfield with a single hard-surfaced runway served by an ILS, making it a useful and characterful destination for simulator pilots flying the North Atlantic approaches to Canada.

Overview

St Pierre Airport is the main aerodrome for Saint-Pierre, the principal settlement of the French collectivity of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, situated in the North Atlantic close to the Newfoundland coast. The field is often referred to by its local name, Saint-Pierre Pointe-Blanche, and handles scheduled airline services as well as general aviation traffic. For a simulator pilot, its remote island setting, single instrument-equipped runway and mix of French and Canadian aeronautical character make it an interesting and distinctive stop.

Airspace & Location

The airport lies at coordinates 46.7631 N, 56.1742 W, at an elevation of 23 feet above mean sea level, on the island of Saint-Pierre off the southern coast of Newfoundland. Overlying area control in this part of the North Atlantic is provided by Gander Centre, which is listed as the terminal control frequency for the field.

Runways

St Pierre Airport has one physical runway, 08/26, of 5,887 feet with a hard surface. Both directions are lit, and runway 26 is equipped with an ILS for instrument approaches.
