Pécs-Pogány Airport (LHPP) lies at Pogány in Baranya County, a few kilometres south of the city of Pécs in southern Hungary. It is a small commercial field built around a single hard-surfaced runway equipped with an ILS, and until scheduled flights ended it handled seasonal links to Munich, Malta and Corfu; it remains available for general aviation and private flying.

Overview

Pécs-Pogány Airport serves the city of Pécs in Baranya County, Hungary, from a site at the village of Pogány a short distance south of the city. It is a small commercial aerodrome that for some years supported scheduled and charter links to destinations such as Munich, Malta and Corfu, operated by the airline Universal Air, before scheduled passenger services ceased. For a visiting VFR pilot it offers a quiet single-runway field with an ILS-equipped runway and general aviation facilities, making it a straightforward and interesting waypoint in southern Hungary.

Airspace & Location

The airport sits at Pogány in Baranya County, close to the city of Pécs, at coordinates 45.9892 N, 18.2422 E, and an elevation of 643 feet.

Runways

The field has a single physical runway, 16/34, aligned roughly north-south, of 4,919 feet with a hard surface. Runway 34 is equipped with an ILS.

Radio & Navigation

The airport is served by an AFIS unit using the callsign POGANY INFO on 126.9 MHz. Runway 34 carries an instrument landing system for instrument approaches.

History

Pécs-Pogány, also known as Pécs South Airport, operated scheduled and charter services under its sole airline operator, Universal Air, with routes at various times to Munich, Malta and Corfu. Its IATA code is PEV, though it has sometimes been incorrectly cited in aviation databases as QPJ. Scheduled passenger flights to and from the airport ceased with effect from 4 February 2026 when Universal Air ended all scheduled services.

The Airfield Today

During the summer period, from 1 May to 31 August, the airport is open daily from 09:00 to 19:00, with the observation terrace, terminal building and parking area accessible to visitors free of charge. Organised airport tours can be arranged by prior appointment, taking in the terminal building, the airside area including aircraft stands and the fuel station, the airport fire department, hangars housing ground handling equipment and small aircraft, and the control tower. General aviation information, including a price list and guidance on drone operation permits, is published by the airport operator.
