Vodochody Airport (LKVO) is a private general aviation and business aviation field near Prague, home to the Aero Vodochody aerospace company and its long-running aircraft manufacturing and test-flight operations. Its single long paved runway with ILS and radar/tower service make it a straightforward destination for a simulated business jet or GA arrival close to the Czech capital.

Overview

Vodochody is a private international civil airport sited within the Aero Vodochody Aerospace complex, roughly fifteen minutes' flying time from Prague. It doubles as the manufacturer's own test airfield, handling private and business aviation traffic, flight training and the test flights of newly built AERO aircraft, which gives it an unusual mix of light GA movements and factory test flying that a simulator pilot may find of interest.

Airspace & Location

The airport lies at Vodochody in the Stredocesky kraj (Central Bohemian Region) of the Czech Republic, close to Prague, at coordinates 50.2167N, 14.3956E and an elevation of 899 feet. It sits at the boundary of the Melnik and Praha-east districts and forms part of the Aero Vodochody Aerospace industrial site.

Runways

Vodochody has one physical runway, 10/28, a hard-surfaced strip 8,176 feet long that is lit along its length. Runway 28 is equipped with an ILS, giving an instrument approach onto that threshold.

Radio & Navigation

Radio services at Vodochody comprise a RADAR frequency on 127.48 MHz and a TOWER frequency on 133.08 MHz. An ILS is available for runway 28.

History

Vodochody Airport has over seventy years of aviation tradition and is closely tied to the Aero Vodochody aerospace company, whose manufacturing complex it serves. Historically and to this day it has functioned as the company's own test airfield, handling test flights of newly manufactured AERO aircraft alongside its civil operations.

The Airfield Today

Today Vodochody operates as a private, non-public international civil airport handling private and business aviation traffic, flight training and factory test flights. It offers aircraft handling for business aviation, hangarage in a modern facility suited to both short-term parking and long-term maintenance, and flight training support spanning aircraft from the Cessna 152 up to the Gulfstream 650. Apron and taxiway pavement markings are maintained as part of routine upkeep, and from 1 April 2026 the airport is introducing a Local Area Reservation System (LARS) for booking local flight training activity. Reported operating hours are 08:00 to 20:00. As a private airfield, prior permission is required before flying in.
