It has become closely associated with the Portugal Air Summit, which has been held there since its first edition, showcasing the site's role in the country's aviation and aerospace ambitions. The aerodrome's development has also underpinned plans for a new aeronautical manufacturing cluster in Ponte de Sor, including the construction of the first Portuguese-built aircraft, the LUS 222, as part of the Aero.Next mobilising agenda.
