Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport is a coastal commercial airport in Turkey's Antalya Province, roughly 40 kilometres from Alanya and serving the wider eastern Antalya resort region. Operated by TAV Airports, it offers a single instrument-equipped runway and a mix of scheduled and seasonal charter traffic, making it a straightforward VFR or IFR destination on the Mediterranean coast.

Overview

Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport (ICAO: LTFG, IATA: GZP) lies on Turkey's Mediterranean coast in Antalya Province, close to the town of Gazipaşa and about 40 kilometres from the resort city of Alanya. It is operated by TAV Airports under a long-term concession and primarily handles scheduled and seasonal charter flights serving the Alanya, Anamur, Side and surrounding resort areas. For a simulator pilot, the field is of interest as a single-runway Mediterranean coastal airport with an ILS-equipped approach, set against a backdrop of resort towns and the Taurus foothills.

Airspace & Location

The airport sits a few kilometres from Gazipaşa town on Turkey's southern Mediterranean coast, within Antalya Province, and is positioned to serve the eastern part of the province including Alanya, Kargıcak, Kestel, Payallar, Avsallar, Okurcalar, Kızılağaç and Side. Before Gazipaşa-Alanya opened, the nearest airport for this region was Antalya Airport, some 120 kilometres away, underlining the field's role as a dedicated gateway for the eastern Antalya coastline.

Runways

Gazipaşa-Alanya has a single physical runway, 08/26, 6,556 feet (1,999 metres) long with a hard surface. It is lit and equipped with an ILS on runway 08, giving instrument approach capability from the sea-facing direction.

Radio & Navigation

The airport is served by a control tower on frequency 119.25 MHz. An ILS is provided for runway 08, supporting instrument approaches from the east.

History

The airfield's runway and infrastructure were completed in 1999, but the airport did not open for operations at that time. Following studies commissioned by national and local government and tourism bodies from 2006, the operating concession was awarded in 2007 to Tepe Akfen Ventures Airports Holding (TAV), which agreed to pay an annual fee and a share of profits for a 25-year right to run the airport, later extended to run until May 2036. TAV subsequently upgraded and expanded the facility, including lengthening the runway to handle international wide-body operations. The airport opened for domestic flights in July 2010, with daily services from Istanbul, and began international operations in the 2011 holiday season with flights from Amsterdam. Its opening cut the road transfer time from Alanya from around two hours, via the previously used Antalya Airport, to roughly 30 to 45 minutes.

The Airfield Today

Gazipaşa-Alanya continues to operate as a commercial airport under TAV Airports, handling both scheduled and seasonal charter flights to a range of domestic and international destinations across Europe and beyond. The terminal has been expanded over the years and the airport has an annual passenger handling capacity of around 1.5 million. It remains the principal air gateway for the eastern Antalya coast, including Alanya and Side, and continues to see periodic infrastructure enhancement works.
