Aeropuerto Internacional del Bajío (MMLO/BJX), also known as Del Bajío International Airport or Guanajuato International Airport, is a large international airport at Silao in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico, serving the city of León and the industrial Bajío corridor. For a simulator pilot it is notable chiefly for its high field elevation, close to 6,000 feet, and its single very long runway.
Aeropuerto Internacional del Bajío, also referred to as Del Bajío International Airport or Guanajuato International Airport, is a civil international airport serving the city of León and the wider industrial Bajío corridor of central Mexico. It sits at Silao de la Victoria in the state of Guanajuato and handles a mix of national and international commercial traffic. For visiting simulator pilots the airport is of interest for its high-altitude operation and its single exceptionally long paved runway, both of which are typical of Mexico's high plateau airports.
The airport lies in the municipality of Silao de la Victoria, Guanajuato, roughly 25 kilometres from the centre of León, within the Bajío industrial region of central Mexico. It is positioned at coordinates 20.9933 N, 101.481 W at a field elevation of 5,925 feet, placing it among the higher-altitude airports in the country, a factor that affects density altitude and climb performance for arriving and departing traffic.
The airport has a single physical runway, 13/31, of 11,498 feet with a hard surface and runway lighting. There is no ILS installed. The exceptional length reflects the airport's role in accommodating a wide range of commercial jet traffic at high elevation.
Radio services are provided as Leon Approach on 119.05 MHz, ATIS on 128.4 MHz, and Leon Tower on 118.35 MHz.
The airport has also been known historically as the Aeropuerto Internacional de Guanajuato or León International Airport, reflecting the cities it serves within the Bajío region. On 11 April 2021 a privately operated Piper PA-34-200T Seneca II, registration XB-FHY, flying between the Bajío airport and Querétaro airport suffered a landing-gear collapse on arrival at its destination, which closed operations there for three hours; no injuries were reported.
The airport is operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) and functions as an international gateway for León, Silao and the surrounding Bajío industrial corridor, handling scheduled national and international commercial services.
