The most prominent visual landmarks in the vicinity are the harbour and marina of the Farmer's Cay Yacht Club on the northwest end of Little Farmer's Cay, and the well-known mile-long sandbar of neighbouring Big Farmer's Cay, a distinctive tidal sand feature visible from the air. The cluster of small cays, with Big Farmer's Cay lying close by to the southeast, helps confirm the airfield's position when approaching from Nassau or from other Exuma strips such as Black Point or Staniel Cay.
Little Farmer's Cay is a small Bahamian settlement with a 2010 census population of 66, administered within the Black Point District. The island is known locally for hosting the annual Farmer's Cay First Friday in February Festival, a sailing regatta, though the sources consulted do not record any specific history of the airstrip itself.
