Farmer's Cay Airport (MYE3) is a short single-strip airstrip serving Little Farmer's Cay in the Exumas, in the Black Point District of the Bahamas. It is a remote island airfield used mainly by visitors reaching the Farmer's Cay Yacht Club and the surrounding cays, with no instrument approach and only a single hard runway.

Overview

Farmer's Cay Airport is a small aerodrome on Little Farmer's Cay, one of a small group of cays (including Big Farmer's Cay) in the Exumas island chain of the Bahamas, within the Black Point District. It exists chiefly to serve visitors and residents travelling to the Farmer's Cay Yacht Club and Marina and the wider Exuma cays, and is a typical example of the short, basic strips that dot the out-islands of the Bahamas, offering VFR pilots a genuine island-hopping destination away from the busier fields at Nassau or Staniel Cay.

Airspace & Location

The airfield sits on Little Farmer's Cay in the Exumas archipelago, part of the Black Point District of the Bahamas, in the Atlantic Ocean/Caribbean Sea area east of the Bahamian mainland. It lies roughly nine miles from Black Point and about fifteen miles from Staniel Cay, both other small Exuma settlements with their own airstrips, and is reached from Nassau by a short flight of around 35 minutes.

Runways

The field has a single physical runway, 01/19, surfaced in hard standing and measuring 2472 feet in length. There is no ILS or other instrument approach available, so operations are conducted visually.

Visual Reference Points

The most prominent visual landmarks in the vicinity are the harbour and marina of the Farmer's Cay Yacht Club on the northwest end of Little Farmer's Cay, and the well-known mile-long sandbar of neighbouring Big Farmer's Cay, a distinctive tidal sand feature visible from the air. The cluster of small cays, with Big Farmer's Cay lying close by to the southeast, helps confirm the airfield's position when approaching from Nassau or from other Exuma strips such as Black Point or Staniel Cay.

History

Little Farmer's Cay is a small Bahamian settlement with a 2010 census population of 66, administered within the Black Point District. The island is known locally for hosting the annual Farmer's Cay First Friday in February Festival, a sailing regatta, though the sources consulted do not record any specific history of the airstrip itself.

The Airfield Today

Little Farmer's Cay today is served by the Farmer's Cay Yacht Club and Marina, which offers dock slots, moorings, a restaurant and bar, and short-term accommodation, drawing visitors who arrive either by boat from neighbouring cays or by a short flight from Nassau of about 35 minutes. The island remains a small, tight-knit community with limited facilities beyond the yacht club; no fuel availability, operating hours, or PPR requirement for the airstrip are given in the sources consulted.
