Exuma International Airport (MYEF/GGT) serves Great Exuma in the Bahamas from a site near Moss Town, northwest of George Town. It offers a single long asphalt runway capable of handling regional jets as well as light general aviation traffic, making it a straightforward and welcoming VFR destination for pilots visiting the Exumas.

Overview

Exuma International Airport is a public, customs-designated airport serving Great Exuma in the Bahamas, situated near Moss Town some 15 miles northwest of George Town, the island's main settlement. It handles a mix of scheduled regional jet services from the United States and Canada alongside general aviation traffic, with an FBO on the field for private and charter operations. For a simulator pilot, its long single runway, straightforward approach over open water and island terrain, and customs port-of-entry status make it an interesting and accessible stop in the southern Bahamas.

The airport lies near Moss Town on Great Exuma, northwest of George Town, within Bahamian airspace. It is a customs port of entry into the Bahamas, reflecting its role as an international gateway for the southern islands.

Runways

Exuma International Airport has one physical runway, 12/30, measuring 7056 feet with a hard surface. There is no ILS approach available.

Radio & Navigation

Traffic at Exuma International is handled by AFIS on 118 MHz. RDO (radio) communications are available on 124.4 MHz through Nassau Radio.

History

The airfield's runway data has historically been sourced from DAFIF records, showing the field configured as a single 12/30 runway of asphalt construction. The airport has long served as the principal air gateway to Great Exuma, supporting both light aircraft and regional jet services from the United States, Canada, and within the Bahamas. In recent years the Bahamian government has undertaken major redevelopment, with a $44 million (later reported as $65 million) project begun around 2021 to build a new terminal, fire station, taxiway, and apron improvements adjacent to the existing airport, aimed at establishing Exuma as a hub for passenger and cargo traffic in the southern Bahamas.

The Airfield Today

The airport continues to operate as a public and customs-designated field serving Great Exuma, with a terminal and boarding area handling scheduled carriers including Bahamasair, American Eagle, Delta Connection, and seasonal Air Canada and American Airlines services. General aviation is supported by an FBO, Odyssey Aviation, which provides direct ramp access for private and charter flights. Ongoing government-funded redevelopment includes a new terminal building, fire rescue facility, and runway and taxiway upgrades intended to expand the airport's capacity as a regional hub.
