Trenton-Robbinsville Airport (N87) is a small general-aviation field a short distance east of the town centre of Robbinsville in Mercer County, New Jersey, close to the New Jersey Turnpike and Route 130. Privately owned but open for public use, it has served the local flying community since 1945 and today combines flight training, aircraft maintenance and hangarage with a single hard-surfaced runway.

Overview

Trenton-Robbinsville Airport, identified as N87, is a privately owned but public-use general aviation airport in Robbinsville Township, Mercer County, New Jersey. It sits close to the New York and Philadelphia metropolitan fringes and has long served local pilots, flying schools and aircraft owners rather than any scheduled or commercial traffic, making it a straightforward and useful stop for visiting light-aircraft pilots in central New Jersey.

Airspace & Location

The airport lies in Robbinsville Township, a mile or so east of the town centre, close to Route 130 and adjacent to the Miry Run Golf Course on Sharon Road. It is described as an uncontrolled general aviation airport, and its location places it within the wider New York and Philadelphia metropolitan areas, though it sits away from the primary controlled airspace associated with the larger airports serving those cities.

Runways

The field has one physical runway, 11/29, of asphalt construction and lit for night operations. The database records a length of 3,865 feet for runway 11 and 3,963 feet for runway 29. There is no ILS or other instrument approach aid associated with the runway.

Radio & Navigation

No control tower is present at the field; it operates as an uncontrolled airport. No specific radio frequency or navigational aid information for N87 is available from the sources consulted.

Joining & Circuit Procedures

No published circuit height, joining procedure or noise abatement instruction for N87 is available from the sources consulted.

Visual Reference Points

The airport is sited next to the Miry Run Golf Course on Sharon Road, just off Route 130, which serves as a useful ground landmark for pilots orienting themselves toward the field.

History

Trenton-Robbinsville Airport has been in operation since 1945, serving aviation enthusiasts in the Mercer County area. It was later categorised by the Federal Aviation Administration's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems, for the 2011-2015 period, as a general aviation reliever airport.

The Airfield Today

The airport remains active as a general aviation field, offering self-serve 100 Low Lead fuel, aircraft tie-down rentals and T-hangar rental. Air Mods Flight Center operates a flight school and aircraft repair shop on the field, working mainly with Piper aircraft, while Cutting Edge Aviation and Aviation Charters, based at the west end of the field, provide full-service aircraft maintenance. In the year ending March 2023 the airport recorded around 26,500 general aviation operations, averaging 73 per day, with 37 aircraft based there, comprising 31 single-engine and 6 multi-engine types.
