Fujairah International Airport (OMFJ) sits on the UAE's east coast, just south of Fujairah City, and offers a single long paved runway well suited to both airline and general aviation traffic. It is a busy international field with full instrument approach capability, home to the Fujairah Aviation Academy and a significant aircraft maintenance and cargo hub.

Overview

Fujairah International Airport is a public international airport serving Fujairah City on the UAE's east coast, operated by the Department of Civil Aviation. It handles scheduled passenger, charter, and cargo traffic, and is also home to the Fujairah Aviation Academy, making it a field of interest to simulator pilots both for its long ILS-equipped runway and its role as a training and maintenance base.

Airspace & Location

The airport lies about 1 nautical mile (1.9 km) south of central Fujairah City, on the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates. Departure traffic is coordinated with Dubai Departure, indicating the airport operates within airspace that interfaces with the wider Dubai area control structure.

Runways

The airfield has a single physical runway, 11/29, a hard-surfaced strip 12,288 feet long and lit for night operations. An ILS is provided for approaches to runway 29.

Radio & Navigation

Radio services include Approach (APP) on 129.4 MHz with radar, an ATIS on 114.7 MHz, Departure (DEP) on 125.45 MHz coordinated with Dubai Departure, Ground (GND) on 119.45 MHz, and Tower (TWR) on 124.6 MHz.

History

Fujairah Airport commenced operations in October 1987. It has since undergone major redevelopment, including a memorandum of cooperation signed with Abu Dhabi Airports in 2014 that initiated a masterplan covering both airfield infrastructure and the passenger terminal. Following subsequent upgrades, the terminal gained the capacity to handle 2 million passengers annually. On 3 December 2022, the airport opened a new runway more than 3 kilometres long and 45 metres wide as part of continued infrastructure expansion.

The Airfield Today

The airport remains an active international field handling scheduled passenger services, with airlines including IndiGo and, seasonally, SpiceJet operating flights. It has a dedicated cargo terminal and is noted for aircraft maintenance, repair, overhaul, and dismantling activity. It is also home to the Fujairah Aviation Academy, giving it an active training presence alongside its commercial operations.
