Mactan-Cebu International Airport serves as the principal gateway to Cebu and the wider Central Visayas region of the Philippines, situated on Mactan Island within Metro Cebu. It is the country's second busiest airport, offering full instrument approach facilities on both of its parallel runways, making it a significant destination for simulator pilots flying international and domestic routes in the Philippines.

Overview

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (RPVM) lies on Mactan Island, Lapu-Lapu City, forming part of Metro Cebu in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. It is the second busiest airport in the country and functions as the main air gateway for Cebu and the surrounding islands, handling substantial domestic and international traffic. For a simulator pilot, it offers a well-equipped, ILS-served large airport with parallel long runways suited to a wide range of aircraft types.

Airspace & Location

The airport sits on Mactan Island, part of Metro Cebu, within the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. As a large international airport it is served by area, approach and tower control, with Area Control on 127.5 MHz, Approach Control on 124.7 MHz, and clearance delivery on 125.1 MHz, placing it within controlled airspace appropriate to its status as a major international gateway.

Runways

The airport has two parallel hard-surfaced runways aligned 04/22. The primary runway, 04R/22L, is 11,027 to 11,031 feet long, lit, and equipped with ILS on both ends. The secondary runway, 04L/22R, is 8,380 to 8,566 feet long, also hard-surfaced with ILS on both ends, though it is not noted as lit. Field elevation is 23 feet.

Radio & Navigation

Mactan-Cebu operates with a full suite of radio services. Tower is on 118.1 MHz, Ground on 121.8 MHz, and Departure on 121.2 MHz. Approach Control is available on 124.7 MHz, with Area Control on 127.5 MHz. ATIS broadcasts on 126.6 MHz, and clearance delivery is on 125.1 MHz. A common traffic advisory frequency is listed on 121.9 MHz, Flight Service on 124 MHz, and Flight Operations Centre on 118.5 MHz. Both runways are equipped with ILS, supporting instrument approaches to either the 04 or 22 direction.

History

The airfield has historical origins as Opon Airfield and later Mactan Air Base, names by which the site was formerly known before its development into the modern international airport now in operation on Mactan Island.

The Airfield Today

The airport is operated under a public-private partnership by Aboitiz Infracapital Cebu Airport Corporation (ACAC), with GMR Airports providing technical operational support. It functions as a large international airport handling scheduled airline services connecting Cebu to domestic and international destinations, supported by full air traffic control and instrument landing capability on both runways.
