Gobernador Horacio Guzmán International Airport (SASJ/JUJ) serves San Salvador de Jujuy from Ciudad Perico in the high valleys of Jujuy Province, northern Argentina. It is the country's northernmost airport with scheduled services, offering a single long, hard-surfaced runway with an ILS approach, making it a useful and well-equipped destination for pilots operating in this Andean-foothill region.
Gobernador Horacio Guzmán International Airport lies in Ciudad Perico, some 33 km southeast of San Salvador de Jujuy, the provincial capital it serves. It is operated by Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 and is the northernmost Argentine airport with scheduled airline services, making it a natural staging point for flights into the far north of the country. For a simulator pilot, the appeal lies in its long single runway set against the high plateau terrain of Jujuy Province, together with an ILS approach that gives a realistic instrument-flying exercise into a regional South American airport.
The airport sits in Jujuy Province, Argentina, at coordinates 24°23'20"S 65°06'00"W, in the town of Ciudad Perico, roughly 33 km southeast of San Salvador de Jujuy itself. Field elevation is 2,959 ft. Given the tower and approach service provided on the field, arriving traffic can expect controlled airspace procedures in the vicinity.
The airport has a single physical runway, 16/34, measuring 9,658 ft and surfaced in hard-standing (asphalt-type) material. Both runway ends are lit. Runway 34 is equipped with an ILS, giving an instrument approach for northerly-direction landings; runway 16 has no ILS listed.
The tower operates on 118.7 MHz, providing combined TWR/APP service for the field. The ILS serving runway 34 supports instrument approaches from the south.
The airport was inaugurated on 19 April 1967 by Governor Darío Arias under the name Aeropuerto El Cadillal. It was renamed in 1992 in honour of Dr. Horacio Guzmán, who served as governor of Jujuy Province for most of the period between 1958 and 1964 and on whose initiative the airport had originally been built. In earlier decades the field served an important role as a refuelling stop for Aerolíneas Argentinas on long-haul routes to Bogotá, Los Angeles, Mexico City and Lima; in 1980 the airline was even operating a weekly scheduled Boeing 707 passenger service from the airport direct to Miami via a stop in Bogotá.
A new terminal was built between 2019 and 2020, substantially expanding the airport's operating capacity to allow up to four simultaneous flights, two using jet bridges and two handled remotely, capable of processing more than four hundred passengers per hour; each jet bridge is equipped to receive international flights. The airport currently handles scheduled services operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas, Flybondi and Paranair to destinations including Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, Puerto Iguazú, Asunción and, from mid-2026, Iquique.
