Cataratas International Airport is the airport serving Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, named after the nearby Iguazu Falls (Cataratas do Iguaçu). It provides air access to the falls in Iguaçu National Park and to the Itaipu Dam, and is currently operated by Motiva, with a sale of the operator's airport portfolio to the Mexican operator ASUR pending government approval as of early 2026. For a visiting VFR or IFR pilot, it is a straightforward single-runway international aerodrome with instrument approach capability, sitting in one of South America's best-known tourism corridors.
The airport lies at Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, Brazil, at coordinates 25°36'S 054°29'W, close to the point where Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay meet. It sits roughly 13 km from Foz do Iguaçu's town centre. A separate airport, Cataratas del Iguazú International Airport, serves Puerto Iguazú on the Argentine side of the border and should not be confused with SBFI.
The field has a single physical runway, 15/33, of 7167 ft on a hard (asphalt) surface. Both directions are lit, and runway 15 is equipped with an ILS.
Approach control is provided by FOZ APP on 119.15 MHz, and the tower is FOZ TWR on 118.8 MHz. An ILS is available for runway 15.
The airport serves as the gateway for visitors to the Iguazu Falls in Iguaçu National Park and to the Itaipu Dam, both prominent landmarks in the area surrounding the field, along with the Three Borders Landmark marking the meeting point of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay.
The airport opened on 7 January 1974, replacing the older Iguassú National Park Airport that had stood closer to downtown Foz do Iguaçu, which was closed at the same time. It was operated by the state company Infraero from 1974 to 2021, after which CCR won a 30-year concession in April 2021. CCR was rebranded as Motiva in April 2025, and in November 2025 Motiva's entire airport portfolio, including Foz do Iguaçu, was sold to the Mexican operator ASUR, a transaction still pending government approval as of February 2026.
Cataratas International Airport handles scheduled domestic and some international jet services. Airlines operating from the field include Azul Brazilian Airlines, with routes to Belo Horizonte-Confins, Campinas, Curitiba and São Paulo-Congonhas plus a seasonal service to Recife; Gol Linhas Aéreas, serving Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro-Galeão, São Paulo-Congonhas and São Paulo-Guarulhos; JetSmart Chile, with a seasonal link to Santiago de Chile; and LATAM Brasil, flying to Brasília, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro-Galeão, São Paulo-Congonhas and São Paulo-Guarulhos. A regular bus service connects the terminal to Foz do Iguaçu's city centre.
