History

The airport was commissioned in 1982, with a new passenger terminal and apron opening in 1997 to accommodate growing tourist traffic. Porto Seguro developed into one of Brazil's most popular holiday destinations, and the airport has since been served mainly by seasonal and charter flights. Since March 2000 the field has been operated by Sinart.

Porto Seguro continues to operate as a busy regional airport supporting Brazil's domestic carriers, with passenger numbers exceeding two million annually in recent years, reflecting the town's status as a major tourist destination. The single runway is lit for night operations, and ground handling support is available through FBO services based at the field.
