São José do Rio Preto's Prof. Eribelto Manoel Reino State Airport serves the city of the same name in the interior of São Paulo state, handling scheduled airline services alongside general aviation traffic. It offers a single hard-surfaced, lit runway and AFIS radio coverage, making it a straightforward VFR destination for pilots operating in this part of Brazil.

Overview

Prof. Eribelto Manoel Reino State Airport, identified by the ICAO code SBSR and IATA code SJP, is the airport serving São José do Rio Preto in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil. It is a public-use field that combines scheduled domestic airline operations with general aviation activity, and its single sealed runway and AFIS service make it a manageable and interesting VFR stop for simulator pilots exploring the interior of the state.

Airspace & Location

The airfield lies close to the city of São José do Rio Preto, about 3 km from the town centre, in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil. Traffic at the field is coordinated through an Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) rather than full air traffic control.

Runways

The airport has a single physical runway aligned 07/25, surfaced in hard material and equipped with lighting. The database records the runway length as 5,361 ft on the 07 threshold and 5,560 ft on the 25 threshold. There is no ILS approach available at the field.

Radio & Navigation

Radio communications are provided through an AFIS on frequency 130.85 MHz, using the callsign RDO. Pilots should expect flight information rather than a full control service, and should monitor this frequency for traffic and airfield information when operating in the vicinity.

History

The airport is named in honour of Eribelto Manoel Reino (1941-1987), a prominent local lawyer, accountant, economist and politician from the São José do Rio Preto area. For many years the field was managed by DAESP, the São Paulo state airport authority, before operational responsibility passed to the ASP (Aeroportos Paulistas) consortium, a joint venture between the Socicam and Dix companies, following a concession auction held on 15 July 2021.

The Airfield Today

The airport continues to operate as a public airfield serving São José do Rio Preto with scheduled domestic airline services alongside general aviation movements. Ground handling support for business aviation is available at the field through commercial FBO operators.
