Del Caribe Santiago Mariño International Airport (SVMG/PMV) serves Isla Margarita in Venezuela's Nueva Esparta state, lying some 12 kilometres west-southwest of Porlamar, the island's largest city. It offers a long ILS-equipped main runway and a second parallel hard-surface strip, making it a straightforward and well-equipped destination for simulator pilots flying into the southern Caribbean.
Del Caribe Santiago Mariño International Airport, known by its ICAO code SVMG and IATA code PMV, is the principal airport serving Isla Margarita, a popular island destination off the northeastern coast of Venezuela in the state of Nueva Esparta. For a simulator pilot the field is notable for its pair of substantial hard-surface runways, one of them ILS-equipped, and for its role as the main gateway to the island, historically handling both domestic and international traffic.
The airport sits on Isla Margarita in the state of Nueva Esparta, Venezuela, about 12 kilometres west-southwest of Porlamar, the island's largest city. It lies at coordinates 10.9125 N, 63.9664 W and at an elevation of 49 feet.
The airport has two parallel hard-surface runways. The main runway, 09/27, is 9,934 feet long, lit, and equipped with an ILS on runway 09. The second, shorter parallel runway, 09L/27R, is 9,617 feet long and also lit, though without an ILS.
Radio services are provided on Margarita Approach, 119.9 MHz; ATIS on 114.1 MHz; Ground on 121.9 MHz; and Tower on 118.6 MHz. The main runway's ILS on 09 provides an instrument approach aid for arriving traffic.
The airport, formerly also referred to as Santiago Mariño Caribbean International Airport, once supported a range of long-haul international services. Most of these long-haul routes have since ended, though as of 2023 a Nordwind Airlines charter flight to Moscow continued to operate, and short and medium-haul international flights remain in service to the present day.
The airport continues to function as a large international airport for Isla Margarita, handling short and medium-haul international flights as well as domestic services, and maintains customs facilities for arriving international traffic.
