Lauriston Airport, also known as Carriacou Island Airport, is a small public airfield operated by the Grenada Airports Authority, lying just west of Hillsborough, the principal town on Carriacou. It handles short-haul flights linking Carriacou to Grenada's Maurice Bishop International Airport and to other nearby islands in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and its compact single-runway layout and island setting make it an interesting VFR destination for simulator pilots touring the Grenadines.
The airfield is located on Carriacou Island, part of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines' wider archipelago though administered as part of Grenada, close to the town of Hillsborough on the island's western side. Approach services in the area are provided by Argyle (TVSA), reflecting the airfield's position within the regional airspace structure covering the southern Grenadines.
Lauriston has a single physical runway, 09/27, measuring 2,613 feet with a hard surface. There is no ILS available, so any approach must be flown visually.
Pilots should contact Argyle Approach (APP ARGYLE TVSA) on 120.8 MHz, with Lauriston Tower (TWR) operating on 118.6 MHz. There is no ILS at the field, so navigation to the airfield relies on visual reference and standard area radio procedures.
The airfield lies immediately west of Hillsborough, Carriacou's main town, which serves as the most prominent visual landmark for pilots approaching from the surrounding sea and island terrain.
The airport's terminal building suffered severe damage when Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Carriacou as a Category 4 storm on 1 July 2024, with a minimum pressure of 950.0 mb recorded at the field. The storm caused widespread destruction across the island, and outages affecting the air traffic control tower in the aftermath hampered the delivery of aid.
Lauriston remains the only airport on Carriacou and continues to handle short-haul flights connecting the island to Grenada and nearby islands within Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The airfield has a small terminal building with check-in, baggage handling, and immigration and customs facilities, and is operated by the Grenada Airports Authority through its subsidiary, Aviation Services of Grenada.
